Girls’ Education

Started 2023 Tanzania Women's Education

About the Program

PGirls in Maasai communities in northern Tanzania face persistent barriers to education, including poverty, early marriage, gender discrimination, and limited access to essential school resources. These challenges contribute to low enrollment, early school dropout, and reduced opportunities for girls to reach their full potential.

DCO works to remove these barriers by providing scholarships, school uniforms, books, and essential learning materials so girls can attend and remain in school. The program also supports menstrual health needs and offers mentorship, tutoring, and life skills training to strengthen confidence, leadership, and academic performance.

To ensure sustainable change, DCO works closely with parents, elders, and community leaders to address harmful practices such as early marriage and to promote the long-term value of educating girls. Through community engagement and safe spaces for girls, the program helps protect their rights and create supportive learning environments.

By investing in girls’ education, DCO helps Maasai girls stay in school, build skills for the future, and break cycles of poverty in their communities.
